Fleet/Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safety First: Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety by following all company safety policies, procedures, and regulations at all times.
  • Preventative Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles.
  • Field Service Support: Travel to construction job sites and field locations to perform equipment repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Identify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and operational issues and efficiently troubleshoot equipment failures.
  • Equipment & Tool Operation: Safely operate diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment required for repairs and maintenance.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with fellow mechanics, operators, and supervisors to complete repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Physical Requirements: Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Attendance & Dependability: Maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability to support operational needs.
  • Overtime & Travel: Be available for overtime, after-hours calls, and occasional overnight travel as business needs require.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Class A CDL with valid Medical Card, or the ability to obtain within an approved timeframe
  • 2–3 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, or fleet mechanic preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of heavy equipment systems and repair procedures
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled mechanic shop environment
  • Occasional outdoor work may be required during field service calls and roadside repairs in varying weather conditions
  • Regular exposure to dust, noise, grease, vibration, and hazardous materials may occur
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and provided by the company
